BVMS' Afternon Enrichment Program

We hope that you will consider joining us this year!

We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year filled with activities to grow and learn from. Making new friends is a BONUS! AFA is a program that is independent from the morning classes. It is informal but still adheres to the philosophy and policies of Bedford Village Morning School.

AFA is designed around different topics that are not covered in the morning program. The students begin the program at 11:30 a.m. (Upper Preschool) and 11:45 a.m. (Kindergarten) and are dismissed at 2:30 p.m. (We ask that you please adhere to the 2:30 p.m. pick up time as teachers may have other commitments in the afternoons.) If you need to pick your child up before 2:30 p.m., please park in the teacher parking area (near the playground) and come into the school to pick up your child from the AFA program.

During this afternoon time, the students will enjoy a lunch from home, outdoor play (weather permitting), time to relax and socialize while playing with materials only used in the AFA program, and an enrichment theme with activities centered around the topic of the day. AFA is a great opportunity for your child to laugh, socialize, play, explore and learn in a relaxed environment. MAKING NEW FRIENDS IS A BONUS!

We recommend a light nutritious lunch that is stored in a labeled lunchbox. We do not have adequate refrigeration for lunchboxes, so please provide ice packs for your child. We suggest a light lunch (sandwich, a snack, some fruit and a drink).

We would appreciate it if you did not send in glass containers, soups, go-gurts, lunchables or spreadables as many of these items take more time to prepare and often end up staining the rug. We are a nut free school. This includes lunches. Please do not pack any items that contain nuts or are processed in a factory with nuts. Please remember that lunch is a very important social time and often more giggling than munching is going on. Also please remember to dress your child for the weather. Until the snow flies, we will try to take advantage of going outside each day.

AFA Policies

  1. The AFA program will begin on Monday, September 18th so the children may become adjusted to their new routine. The sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Each session's sign-up form and tuition will have a due date. Any forms turned in after the due date will be charged a $10.00 late fee. The program is open to current Upper Preschool and Kindergarten students of BVMS. Those students that have attended BVMS in the past and are currently in the public Kindergarten classes may attend the AFA program as well. The program is open to students outside the BVMS family when space permits.

If at any time the staff feels that the AFA program is not in your child's best interest, you will be contacted by a teacher to discuss the difficulties facing your child and the program guidelines.

The AFA will run three sessions in the Fall and three sessions in the Spring.

  2. For this program to run effectively, we need many children to participate. This program is a great opportunity for your child to meet and socialize with students that are not in his or her morning class and making friends is a big part of AFA.

  3. Registration forms will be sent home prior to the start of each new session. In order to arrange for staff participation, supplies and payroll, we will be sending out the registration forms for the AFA program a few weeks prior to each session.
  4. In order to arrange for staff participation, supplies and payroll, we will be sending out the registration forms for the AFA program a few weeks prior to each session. Payment is due by the date clearly stated on each registration form for the session. All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE due to the teachers, activities and supplies that are arranged ahead of each session for the number of students on a particular day and session. In addition, days cannot be switched or substituted due to an absence. Due to the extreme difficulty we have had in the past in obtaining registration forms on time and the impact it has on the program, staff participation and supplies, we have established a late fee policy for any enrollments that are late. A $10.00 late fee will be charged for turning in a registration form past the due date. Our tuition is $18.00 per day and an additional $7.00 for our outside specialists:  Soccer, Music, Dance and Yoga.
  5. Snow days and school closings due to weather will have a make-up day offered as the schedule allows. If your child cannot attend the make-up day, the payment is surrendered. If no makeup day is scheduled, snow coupons will be issued. The snow coupons will have an expiration date and cannot be used in paying the tuition for a session. The snow coupons do not include payment for the specialists on a makeup day (i.e., Music, Soccer, Dance, Yoga).

Please note: If there is no school due to a scheduled teacher workshop, parent conferences, vacations or a holiday, there is no AFA on that day. The sessions are subject to change.

  • Session One:  September 18 - October 6 (3 weeks)
  • Session Two:  October 10 – November 9  (5 weeks)
  • Session Three:  November 13 – December 15  (5 weeks)
  • Extended AFA for the Holiday Season:  December 18 - 22
  • Session Four:  January 2 – February 23  (8 weeks)
  • Session Five; March 5 - April 20 (7 weeks)
  • Session Six:   April 30 – June 5  (5 weeks)

The AFA tuition is based on a $18.00 per day fee with a $2.00 additional charge for signing up for days one at a time. To reserve AFA for the session, all days must be paid for within that session.

Some of the activities that we will be offering this year will include: Science,
Language, Creative Drama, Scavenger Hunts, Cooking, Journal Writing, Nature, Games from Around the World and so much more. We welcome your ideas as well!

In addition to our own "Themes of the Day," we will again be offering outside specialists...Amy Conley will be returning to offer her special musical talents. Also the Soccer Program will return. This program has been a huge success. The children learn skills while they enjoy playing Soccer!  It was a joy to watch coaches and children alike focus on playing just for the "love of the game." This year we are also happy to again offer Dance and Yoga classes! What a fun and relaxing way to celebrate the end of the school day!  There is a $7.00 fee per day in addition to the regular fee for each of these special classes and it is optional as an addition to your child's AFA day.

We look forward to seeing your child in the AFA program. It is a fun and educational time for your child. The Director of AFA will be available for any questions related to the program. She will also handle all of the registration and billing issues. Our program will begin two weeks after school begins to allow your child time to adjust to school.

Please contact Cynthia Clark or Sue Tyrie with questions regarding programming or billing: 472-5531 (school) or 472-3231 (office).

Payment Options

We would like to offer some different options for sign-ups this year. Please contact Cynthia Clark (472-3231) if you would like to choose either option #2 or #3 below. Thank you!

Option 1:
Sign-up and pay per session. AFA forms need to be turned in on time with payment of days wanted.

Option 2:
Pay by ½ year. Pay in one payment with days reserved for the ½ year (September 18th – Dec. 15th). *Note: there are no refunds or switched days for any days missed. No AFA forms will need to be turned in. Days will be reserved for your child. Snow coupon policy applies.

Option 3:
Pay by the full year. Choose days based upon need for childcare. This will always guarantee your child's attending on the days preferred. Note: No days will be refunded or switched throughout the year. No need to turn in AFA forms each session. Days are automatically reserved for the full year. Snow coupon policy applies.

Option 4:
Add-on days. You may call ahead of time close to the day you would like to add your child to AFA for the day. There is a $2.00 service fee added to the regular payment of $18.00 per day. Attendance on a day is based upon availability of space.

Special Note About AFA Payments

Please remember that all AFA payments are independent from our regular tuition and need to have a separate check made out to BVMS/AFA. Also, extra days need to be paid for before the end of each session and not combined into the next session payment. This allows our accountant to keep the sessions separate from one another. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We know that you and your child will love
our Afternoon of Fun and Arts!
